In the sixties, the Baron and Baroness F.E. Kubinzky of Austrian nobility and members of Montreal’s high society at the time have contributed to the success of the first Austrian Balls by lending their special support to this event during their years in Montreal. The first Ball that supported the SOS Children’s’ Villages was held on January 19, 1962 at the Windsor Hotel. Baroness (Vera) Kubinzky was Ball President.

The Austrian Ball held in 1967 on “Austrian Day” at Expo 67 was one of the most splendid events taking place in Montreal that year. Vera Kubinzky’s participation and support continued for many more years, and her memories of these events she collected in a historic album. In March 2012, the Austrian Society of Montreal and the Ball Committee were honoured to receive this unique historic collection of souvenirs remembering a long succession of Austrian Balls in our city.

Ever since these illustrious beginnings, the Austrian Society of Montreal has been organizing their special and very popular annual Gala evening to continue the wonderful tradition of the Viennese Ball for ex-pat Austrians as well as for all Montrealers and lovers of European culture, and to support charitable organizations for young people, such as SOS Children’s Villages.
